Deans' Note August 28, 2022

Dear St. John's community:

This is our final weekly Dean's Note. Normally in this space we discuss new things that are happening, or give our thoughts about life at St. John's, or reflect on a concern of the times in which we live. Today though, we use this space to simply bid our farewell.

While we will be back for a celebration in November, and will be in contact with the Wardens and consult with the staff as necessary through our sabbatical time, this Sunday will be an ending. Yet as T.S. Eliot said,"to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from."

For us, ending will turn to packing up and taking the trek to Long Island, to unpacking and re-imagining and starting ministry in a new place to which we have been called. For you, our goodbyes will turn to hellos as you welcome Bishop Frank Brookhart who will begin his ministry a week from Sunday and start the process of transition. You will all continue the work of the Gospel here at St. John's and continue to invite the Holy Spirit to lead you into new ways you have yet to imagine.

So for now there isn't much else to say except to thank you for the great privilege it has been to serve with you. We give St. Paul the last word, and end in the way he began every one of his letters with this blessing, "Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ."
with our love and continuing prayers,

Fr. Dan and Fr. Mark
