Deans' Note Apr. 11, 2021

Since the beginning of this year we have remembered the words of the first nurse vaccinated against Covid in the United States, Sarah Lindsay, "Healing is coming." Her words have not only held out hope for the end of this pandemic, but also hope in the face of the other social, political, and economic issues our nation faces.

In Los Angeles, we especially focus on the bright light at the end of the Covid tunnel. Our state is experiencing downward trends in cases and increased vaccinations. That's why we need to be active partners in the healing that's coming. On April 24 from 11am-3pm, St. John's will partner with Dr. Jerry Abraham and Kedren Community Health Center to sponsor a vaccine clinic in our Peace Garden.

Vaccines will be open to the St. John's community along with a broader invitation to the Trans/Non-Binary communities in Los Angeles. A special outreach is necessary since this population often experiences challenges in accessing all kinds of healthcare. We want to demonstrate our Gospel welcome and provide this necessary vaccine to protect their health as well as the health of all our neighbors. We know that St. John's has an extraordinary gift of welcome and hospitality and we will have an opportunity to offer that gift to our neighbors.

If you would like to get a vaccine as part of St. John's community you will not need a reservation. We will also need about six volunteers that day to help make the process go smoothly. Please contact Kyle in the church office if you are willing to help, or Fr. Dan if you have any other questions.
