Weekly Update | April 26, 2026

Over the past few weeks since Easter, you may have heard talk about you mattering! You do, you know. You matter to us, the good people of St. John’s Cathedral. Every member of St. John’s Cathedral is beloved to this community.

Thank you for being here, with us. Thank you for all the ways in which contribute time, talents, resources and generosity of spirit. When you attend, your presence matters greatly to us. When you’re away, you are missed, and it’s not the same without you.

Church is by definition the people who gather following Jesus. As a people, we reflect the time, place and beauty of the people within, as well as cultural traditions. It’s easy to focus on what could be better, until you realize that the church is simply the people who gather – reflecting the best of us and ways that we fall short. Yet, all things are possible with God. If there is something that’s missing, it’s as simple as naming the wish or want, and working together to make it happen. Whatever needs to change involves the same process to let it go. The work of being the church requires all of you.

During this season of Easter, we invite everyone new and old to gather on Sunday to be the church. This is when we see each other and connect; but, being a follower of Jesus is something we do every day of the week. It is my hope and prayer that as a church we continue to grow in love and strength as we discern how God is calling us to live and be as a community of faith. Come, join us, dream, contribute, laugh, share, offer what’s on your minds and hearts, and be willing to help make it all happen. Anything we wish to make happen is possible together with the Holy One who is with us always.

Jesus kept appearing to his disciples after his death offering his peace. Then, Jesus breathed on them, and said receive the Holy Spirit. “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” Let us be the church we believe that God is calling us to be in Los Angeles, at this time, in this place and reflecting the beauty of the beloved people who call St. John’s their home. You matter to us; it’s never the same without you.

With love and blessings,

Anne+
