Weekly Update | March 22, 2026

Dear Friends in Christ,

Do you ever think you know the story, and redirect your time and attention elsewhere? Or perhaps, you skip church for a quiet morning at home.

Indeed Holy Week is on the horizon beginning on Palm Sunday and ending on Holy Saturday at the Easter Vigil. Then, there is Easter morning!

Mondays are my day off, so often I am offline. This means that rarely am I reading the scripture assigned for that day. But, in preparation for the weeks ahead, I read the scripture assigned for Monday, March 23, 2026. Much to my surprise, the Old Testament reading felt like it was ripped from the headlines in the news today:

Married woman refused unsolicited sexual advancements by older men in positions of leadership and authority. Then, woman accused by the older men of having sexual relations with a younger man. Women sentenced to death, until an earnest soul catches the older men in their lies. Men in power held responsible for their harmful and violent actions.

While this story is all too familiar, except for the death sentences, I imagine there are other ancient stories or elements of a story that are meant to teach us, awaken us to God’s presence in our lives and to living in right relationship with God and each other today. I wonder what story will speak to you, catching your attention and heart?

This is the invitation:

Come, join us for Holy Week, all week long from Palm Sunday to the Easter Vigil, and Easter Day. Even if you’ve attended these special services in the past, even if you know the story, or how the story ends and where it begins, there is no possible way you can know how these experiences will speak to you.

For none of us know when, where and how the Holy One will appear and how God will speak with us. Or, how our lives will be changed for the good in glorious and profound ways. Come join us this year for Holy Week at St. John’s Cathedral. You are welcome, always.

With gratitude and love,

Anne+
