Your presence matters, and all members of the congregation are encouraged to attend as we continue the work of the church together. A member must be in good standing to vote at the annual meeting.
The time has once again come for our annual celebration of Black History Month. It seems like only a week ago that I penned an article about our plans for February last year.
Join us this February as we celebrate Black History Month at the cathedral with gratitude, reverence, and joy.
Eleanor Farjeon’s poem reminds us that Advent is a spiritual preparation for Christmas which includes making our homes fair as we are able for the celebration – that is true also of our church home.

As we move further into the Advent season we celebrate one of the great Anglican traditions -- the service of Lessons and Carols. Rather than a Christmas concert, we take time to remember the whole sweep of the history of Israel longing for freedom and the human condition in which we long for forgiveness and renewal.
Every year as we prepare for the coming of Christmas at St. John’s we join many other churches across the nation in the Advent Conspiracy – a way to separate our pre-Christmas practices from the hype of the consumer culture

This Sunday, after a long time of waiting through Covid, we have the joyful opportunity for the baptism of a child into the new life of Christ.
“Every generous act of giving with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights…” (James 1:17a)
Throughout the Episcopal Church, fall is stewardship season.
Over the past several years Halloween has become a big holiday, at least in Southern California. It's also become a holiday celebrated by adults as much as children.
We are planning another step forward into our new life at St. John's anticipating the Baptism of a one-year-old child in November.
Last week we discussed moving ahead with a new program year as we hopefully are seeing light at the end of the Covid tunnel.
