Weekly Update | April 23, 2023

Dear Friends in Christ,

On 6 May 2023, you are invited to be confirmed, to reaffirm your confirmational vows, and/or to be received into the Episcopal Church. The service will be held at St. John’s Cathedral at 10am by Bishop John H. Taylor.

In the Episcopal Church, many members are baptized as infants or young children. CONFIRMATION is the next step for anyone who has been baptized and who is old enough to think and speak for themselves, i.e. older children and adults. To be confirmed is the opportunity to learn more about the Christian Faith, to repent the sins that separate us from the love of God, and to commit to following Jesus, as our Savior and Lord.

REAFFIRMATION is for someone who has already been confirmed, and would like to reaffirm your vows to God.

And lastly, RECEPTION is for someone who was confirmed in another denomination/church, and who wishes to become a member of the Episcopal Church.

May is around the corner, so please let us know if you are interested. Preparation would involve 2-3 classes with other interested members. Then, during the service Bishop Taylor would evoke the Holy Spirit by laying his hands on your head.

This is a diocesan wide event, so it’s a great way to meet other people who seek to grow in relationship with God, to learn about our faith, and to learn more about the Episcopal Church.

Say yes to God by emailing Rev. Anne at asawyer@stjohnsla.org or Kyle Black at churchoffice@stjohnsla.org, or by calling at 213-747-6285. Please join us for this special day in

your life and our church.

Blessings,

Anne Sawyer
