Hawaiian Luau: The diocesan community is invited to join in a Hawaiian Luau on the roof of the Cathedral Center of St. Paul on Saturday, June 8, 6 - 9 p.m., to support the New Ministry Scholarship Fund for EAM-LA (Episcopal Asiamerican Ministries - Los Angeles). Join the Young Adults from St. John's as we gather at this event. Please RSVP with Victor. If you are not a part of the young adults group at St. John's you can still attend of course, but tickets are $30, and can be purchased from Victor on the Sundays leading up to the event.

Deacon Margaret McCauley is retiring! She has served this community in pastoral care, children’s ministry, social justice ministry, as well as on Sunday mornings. We will celebrate her ministry on Pentecost Sunday, June 9, at the 11:00 am service and present her with a gift from the congregation. If you would like to contribute to a retirement gift for her you may note this in the memo of a check, or make a donation through our online portal marking it as a gift for Deacon Margaret. Please give generously to honor her many years of generous service!

Girls Friendly Bake Sale: Two of our GFS members, Clover Brantner and Nya Thomas, will represent St. John's and the Diocese of Los Angeles at the Girls Friendly Society Assembly in Pennsylvania this summer. Our GFS chapter is planning to have a bake sale on Sunday, June 9th after the 11am Mass. There will be a variety of baked goods for purchase. If you are interested in pre-ordering a cake, please contact Sandra Smiley at 323-777-3575. Thank you for supporting our girls as they grow as children God, develop leadership skills, and become aware of their uniqueness.

Book Swap: June 9th! The Creation Guild is hosting a book exchange during the coffee hour on Sunday, June 9th. The theme is books about Spirit: books covering all aspects of religion and spirituality. So bring in books you’ve loved and want to share, as well as those you didn’t love so much and see if they can find a new home! Remember, you don’t have to bring a book to take a book. At the end of the coffee hour any leftover books will be collected for donation. Look for the book table set out in the garden.

June 11 | Tuesday | 7:00 p.m.

Young Adults Bible Study: Beginning on Tuesday, June 11, at 7:00 p.m., and continuing every Second Tuesday, young adults of the parish are invited to gather together and explore the Bible. The collected writings we call scripture is the beginning point of our beliefs and behaviors, and is the single most important guiding force in our traditions and ethics. Few things are worth more time and hard work, and spark more intense conversation and debate, than the Christian Bible. Victor Eichhorn will facilitate. All are invited and encourage to begin these evening with Evening Prayer at 6:30.

June 15 | Saturday | 10:00 a.m.

Film Screening: BlacKkKlansman, Saturday, June 15th at 10:00am, followed by discussion. “It’s the early 1970s, and Ron Stallworth (John David Washington) is the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department. Determined to make a name for himself, Stallworth bravely sets out on a dangerous mission: infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan.

June 15 | Saturday | 12:30 p.m.

Episcopal Church Women: The women of St. John's are invited to a Heritage Potluck Luncheon on Saturday, June 15th from 12:30-3pm. The luncheon will occur at St. John's and the theme is your favorite childhood dish. We will have an opportunity to experience chair yoga, discuss the future of ECW at St. John's, review the questionnaire that was completed by some of the women last year, and celebrate Deacon Margaret's ministry at our church. Sign-up for the luncheon at church today. Tickets are $24, and can be given to Victor or brought to the office before the event. Children’s Ministry Planning: The children’s ministry is taking a summer break after their last Sunday school on Pentecost, June 9. Help us dream the new shape and direction of the children’s ministry in the fall! All families with small children are invited to a group conversation and planning meeting on Sunday, June 30, after the 11am mass. A light lunch will accompany the meeting. You can RSVP at church Sundays before the event, and start thinking about your feedback and idea for the future of the children’s ministry program!

Pride Sunday: Join St. John’s on Sunday, June 30, at the 11:00 a.m. mass to celebrate LGBTQ Pride month on the 50th anniversary of Stonewall with guest preacher Rev. Christopher Montella and music offering from the LA Trans Chorus. Find out more here.

Summer Sunday Celebration: The summer mass schedule begins on Sunday, July 7, as we return to eucharist in the round for our Summer Sunday Celebrations! Masses on Sunday will be at 8 & 10 a.m., and adult Christian education will be at 9am, throughout the months of July, August, and September.
