Men's Spirituality: Food Justice

Men’s Spirituality:

Saturday, November 18, the Men's Spirituality Group is sponsoring an event to think about the spirituality of food production and food justice. The day will begin by serving in our food pantry starting at 8:30am for those who want to help set up, or come at 10 to help serve. Then we will tour the Good Grow Urban Farm in Bell and conclude with lunch and reflection at San Antonio Winery with guest speaker, Steven Trapasso.

Steven is the program coordinator for Seeds of Hope, the Food Justice ministry of the Episcopal Diocese. Steven oversees Seeds of Hope’s nutrition and wellness programs throughout Los Angeles County. Prior to Seeds of Hope Steven received his Master of Public Health – Nutrition from Tulane University in New Orleans. He worked on farms through the WWOOF program before his Masters and believes this experience has helped shape the programs he runs today.

Seeds of Hope helps congregations, communities, and schools turn unused land into productive gardens and orchards to provide healthy and fresh food in areas of need across the county. Through garden workshops, nutrition and cooking education, produce giveaways and creative collaboration with communities in need, Seeds of Hope is working to Cultivate Wellness in Los Angeles to create stronger, healthier churches and communities!

Some highlights: over 14000 lbs of produce distributed weekly; over 100 church properties growing food; over 110 feeding programs that include healthy meals; over 10,000 participants in nutrition and cooking education; over 700 trees planted throughout the Diocese.
