Cathedral Arts Fundraiser, APA Sunday, and more!

April 27, 2017

Happy Easter! As we continue to celebrate this joyful season, there are a few upcoming events to highlight. First, this Sunday is the last day to buy tickets for our gala dinner and concert to benefit our arts and music programs at St. John's. We all love our magnificent choir, the arts events we sponsor, and even the special days such as next week's Asian Pacific American celebration. Musicians representing many cultures add to our worship during these special days. All of these events have a financial cost, and so we are looking to the extra generosity of our congregation, and to others in our diocese and wider community, who benefit from the ministries of the Cathedral. Many of you have already purchased tickets, but there still is room at the table for you. Individual tickets are $100 and a table is $750. There will be representatives from our choir available to assist you with your ticket purchase, either by check or credit card after the 11 a.m. Mass. If you attend the 8 a.m. service, see Deacon Fernando to buy your ticket.

Next week as we noted, we have our annual celebration of Asian and Pacific Island cultures. Several languages will be spoken in the liturgy - Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Tagalog, and Farsi. Korean drummers and traditional Filipino folk musicians will add to our worship experience. We welcome the Rev. Peter Huang as our guest preacher and to share with us at the 9:15 a.m. Christian Education Forum. There will also be a special children's program, and four children will be baptized into the life of our Risen Lord. So, please bring your children to experience this wonderful celebration. It will be a day not to be missed!

Finally, beginning on Sunday, May 14, we begin a three week exploration of The Anglican Way during the 9:15 a.m. Christian Education Forum. While some of the participants in this year's formation program were interested in learning more about the Anglican tradition, we also wanted to open this to the entire congregation. Many of us come from disparate Christian traditions, or from none. So this will be an opportunity to ask your questions and to learn more about the particular Christian journey we are on as Episcopalians.
