Dean's Note: The Children of St. John's
Happy New Year:
We celebrate the end of the Christmas Season this Sunday with the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus. During
the 11:00 mass we will also baptize a child. Bringing children into maturity in Christ is part of our Christian
vocation. Parents are the primary persons in charge of the spiritual formation of their children. That's why we are careful to make sure children baptized at St. John's are part of a Christian community in which the
parents have support in raising their child in the life of Christ.
This Sunday, Deacon Margaret will have a special children's event on what Baptism means during the 11:00 mass. So bring your children to participate in this day. Following the 11:00 mass there will be a special
meeting for parents of younger children at St. John's. This meeting is intended to help us listen to your
thoughts and desires for ministry to and with your children. We want to listen to what you need as parents.
We also want to get the thoughts of parents on qualities we should be looking for in the new priest we will be bringing on staff this fall. The portfolio for that position will be young adult and young family ministry. We are limiting this meeting to parents of younger children since we are interested in specifically listening to their
concerns at this meeting. We look forward to seeing you there. If anyone else has thoughts and ideas please let us know and there will be other listening opportunities ahead.
Please also keep Fr. Mark in your prayers as he goes on pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
