Dean's Note: A Bountiful Harvest
Last Saturday we had a great turn out for our Harvest Dinner. We thank all those who helped to make it happen. At the dinner we saw slides of our year together at St. John's as the Community of Christ's love. Sunday we blessed the pledge cards that have been turned in to date as a sign of the offering we make from the fruits of our life and labor. Several folks have not yet turned in their pledge cards and we hope you will also participate in this year's pledge campaign, offering thanks for the goodness you have received from the Lord's bounty. As we prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday we give thanks to the Lord for all of you in this community. I'm sure we all are thankful -- for the gifts of life and love for family and friends for all the blessings of this life. On the evening before Thanksgiving, Wednesday November 23, at 7:00 pm, come join your St. John's family at our Lord's table to give thanks as we celebrate the Eucharist and sing traditional hymns of thanks. This Sunday, we celebrate the final Sunday of the Church year, the Feast of Christ the King. In this time of anxiety and disquietude in our world. The Church stops and worships the Lord of all history, the one who's Kingdom is coming and already operates, through the work of God's people in the world. We are the advance team for God's Kingdom. May we at St. John's, as the Community of Christ's love, demonstrate that we seek a heavenly country even as we work within the structures of this present world order. Let's remember there will one day be a great feast at the Lord's table in the new creation. For the people who form this community, for hope in God's future, for the work we have been given to do O Lord we give you thanks!
