We celebrate the Feast of All Saints this Weekend. As we gather together as a community joined by Christ's love we are joined with all those who have gone before us in the Communion of Saint, and together we are the community of love we have been singing and talking about ion the last several weeks. In particular, we have two central events this weekend. First, the All Saints, All Souls Concert Saturday evening -- a joint event of our Choir and our Social Witness Committee. We will remember all those who have died as a result of gun violence as their names will be read as part of this stirring Renaissance Requiem music sung by our own Cathedral Choir and guest singers under the direction of Canon Ned Tipton.
On Sunday, we have a on going tradition here at St. John's of bringing tangible things to church this Sunday to remind us of those we love, but now live in a greater light and on a distant shore. So carry a picture, or a memento of some kind that is your point of contact with someone who has died, or simply write their names on a card we will have available for you. As is our custom, we will process with these treasured items to the high altar where they will be placed near our Lord's presence in the Blessed Sacrament. Our Lord's physical presence with us in his Body Blood is the most intimate way we have available to us as Christians to come near to the communion of Saints. Through the Blessed Sacrament we are joined as the community of love in heaven and on earth. We strongly encourage you to come to church Sunday to participate in this great feast of the Church year. There will also be a special children's program so please bring your children or grandchildren.
Then next weekend, on Saturday November 12, we continue the celebration with our Harvest Dinner. We hope everyone who is a part of this community will attend as another way we come together as the community of Christ's love. There are only a couple of times during the year when those who attend regularly the 8:00 mass and those who attend 11:00 all have an opportunity to break bread together at a festive meal. The evening begins in our garden at 6:00 with hors d'ouevres and drinks and then dinner will be served in the cathedral at 7:00. each ticket is $20.00 to defray the cost of the event. This evening will also be a time when we can remember events from the past year and hear again our choir as we come to the conclusion of this year's stewardship campaign. The next day all the pledge cards we have received will be processed to the high altar and blessed to consecrate the fruit of our life and labor. These next two weekends are central days for our community of love. Please be part of them.
